G2 API and G2 Scraper API for Software Reviews and Capterra Data

Get the star rating, review count and every review of any software product on G2, yours or a competitor's, with likes, dislikes, reviewer role, industry and company size. G2's own API is tied to a paid G2 account and the permissions it was sold. Send a G2 or Capterra URL and the fields you want, from 0.98 USD per 1,000 pages.

Which G2 API you can actually use

G2 has a real API at data.g2.com, but it is the seller side of G2. The token is generated inside a G2 account, the endpoints you may call depend on what G2 sold that account, and a lapsed subscription answers HTTP 402. It is built for showing your own reviews and reading buyer intent, not for reading every competitor in a category.

That decides most projects. A vendor that wants its own G2 reviews on its pricing page uses the syndication endpoints and is done. A product marketing team that wants every review of its five closest rivals, a sales intelligence product that tracks review velocity for 5,000 tools, or an investor scoring a target's customers against its category has no published route to that data through G2.

The product pages show those reviews to any visitor. A G2 scraper API reads them through residential addresses with a real browser, gets past the DataDome check in front of them, and returns the fields you name as JSON, ready for a warehouse table. The same request works on Capterra.

Official terms from the G2 API documentation at data.g2.com, read October 9, 2026. Capterra limits are those documented by a reporting connector, since Capterra itself publishes no review API.

Where G2's own route wins: if you are a G2 customer and only need your own reviews, the API gives clean IDs, consent flags for quoting reviewers, filters by role, industry and segment, and webhooks. Buyer intent, meaning which companies are researching your category on G2, exists only inside G2 and no scraper can give it to you. For everything that starts with "every competitor" or "the whole category", the public pages are the practical source.

What one G2 review page returns

You name the fields in plain English and get the same keys back on every page. G2 structures each review around a few fixed questions, which makes the text unusually easy to analyze: what the reviewer likes best, what they dislike, and what problem the product solves for them.

The reviewer block is the part sales teams care about. Role, industry and company segment let you split a rival's complaints by buyer, so you see that mid market finance teams hate the reporting while small agencies love the price.

Illustrative output. Field names are the ones you ask for.

What G2 and Capterra data jobs cost per month

One product page or one review page is one request. A G2 reviews page lists about 25 reviews and pages through with ?page=2, ?page=3. Daily checks read page one, newest first, and go deeper only when something new appears. Monthly billing.

Figures assume each page loads on the first try. A page that comes back as a DataDome or Cloudflare challenge is retried through a fresh residential address and only the successful fetch counts against your plan. Plan details are on the pricing page.

How to scrape G2 reviews in four steps

01

Map the category

Start from a G2 category page, such as CRM or payroll, and ask for each product's name, rating, review count and profile URL. That list is your competitor universe, ranked the way buyers see it.

02

Key on the slug

G2 addresses products as /products/<slug>/reviews. Store the slug as your key and keep the Capterra product ID beside it, so the same tool on both sites joins into one row.

03

Read the review pages

Name the fields: stars, title, date, likes, dislikes, problems solved, role, industry and segment. Step through the pages until the dates pass your cutoff.

04

Schedule the refresh

Growth and Scale save the request as a job that runs every morning and posts new reviews to your webhook, so a rival's 2 star review about a price rise reaches your account executives the same day.

The request is a POST to /v1/scrape with the G2 URL, rendering on, and a plain English list of fields, as the API docs show. The same key reads consumer review sites too, so one review table can hold every platform: see the Trustpilot scraper API for ecommerce and SaaS brands and the Google Reviews API for local businesses.

Four mistakes that break a G2 scraper

Measured on October 9, 2026 against public review pages.

Treating two sites as one problem. G2 runs DataDome and Capterra runs Cloudflare, so a scraper tuned to one fails on the other in a different way. Both answered a plain request with a 403 when we checked. A managed API handles each challenge, retries through another residential address with a real browser and bills only the page that loads. The DataDome bypass API page explains how those retries work.

Reading the listing instead of the review. Category and search pages show a rating and a review count, not the text. Teams that only crawl the category see scores move and never learn why. Read the reviews pages for every product that matters to you, and the listing for everything else.

Throwing away the reviewer block. The role, industry and segment beside each review are what make G2 data worth more than a star average. Store them as columns, not inside the text, so you can filter complaints by buyer type later.

Building on the account you already have. Teams prototype with their own G2 token, then the product needs competitors and Capterra. Check what your G2 permissions cover before the first sprint, not after the first customer asks for a category view.

G2 API and scraper questions

Does G2 have an API?

Yes. G2 runs a REST API at data.g2.com built on the JSON:API specification, with endpoints for products, reviews, categories, vendors, buyer intent and review syndication. Access needs a token generated inside a G2 account, and the endpoints you can call depend on the permissions that account has been sold.

How do I get a G2 API key?

Sign in to your G2 account, open the integrations page and generate an API token. If an endpoint answers 403, G2's documentation tells you to talk to your Account Executive about access. A lapsed G2 subscription returns HTTP 402, so the token is tied to a paying G2 relationship.

Is the G2 API free?

G2 publishes no price for API access. The token comes from a G2 account, review syndication and buyer intent are permissioned per customer, and the documentation lists HTTP 402 Payment Required for a lapsed subscription. In practice the API is a feature of G2's paid seller products, not a public data feed.

Can I get competitor reviews from the G2 API?

The syndication reviews endpoint is built around one product ID and carries a reference_user_consent flag, which fits showing your own reviews on your site. Whether your account may read other products depends on what G2 grants it. For reading any public G2 product page today, a scraping API is the direct route.

Can you scrape G2 reviews?

Yes. G2 product review pages are public and list each review's star rating, title, what the reviewer likes and dislikes, the problems the product solves, and the reviewer's role, industry and company size. A scraping API loads those pages through residential addresses with a real browser and returns the fields as JSON.

Why does my G2 scraper get a 403?

G2 is protected by DataDome. On October 9, 2026 a plain request to a G2 reviews page returned HTTP 403 with an x-datadome: protected header and a 1,704 byte page that loads a challenge from geo.captcha-delivery.com, with or without a browser user agent. Residential addresses with browser rendering get the real page.

What data can you scrape from G2?

From a product page, the star rating, review count, category, pricing editions and the vendor. From each review, the stars, title, date, the likes, dislikes and problems solved answers, plus reviewer role, industry and company segment. Category and search pages give competing products with ratings and review counts.

Does Capterra have an API?

Capterra publishes no public developer API for reading reviews that we could find. Reporting connectors expose a vendor's own Capterra reviews; Supermetrics documents its connector at 1 request per second and the most recent 250 reviews. Capterra pages sit behind Cloudflare, which returned a 403 challenge to a plain request on October 9, 2026.

How much does it cost to scrape G2?

On WebScrap one page is one request at a flat rate: 49 USD a month buys 50,000 pages on Starter and Scale works out to 0.33 USD per 1,000. A G2 reviews page lists about 25 reviews, so 50,000 pages can cover more than a million reviews. Blocked fetches are retried and never billed.

Is it legal to scrape G2?

Reading public pages is generally not unauthorized access under US law after the hiQ v. LinkedIn rulings, but G2's terms restrict automated collection, so contract claims are possible. Collect only the fields you need, do not republish reviews as your own content, keep reviewer names out of your records unless required and have counsel review the use.
