If you are choosing a SERP API for a rank tracker, an SEO tool or a lead pipeline, the headline rates hide two differences. DataForSEO bills each result page from a prepaid balance and varies the price by how fast you want the answer. SerpApi sells fixed monthly plans of real-time searches.
Rates here come from SerpApi's pricing page and DataForSEO's Google Organic SERP API pricing, read on October 25, 2026. Both vendors change plans several times a year. For a neutral view of search and page jobs together, see our SerpApi alternative comparison.
The two price lists side by side
All prices are USD. SerpApi renews monthly and counts successful searches. DataForSEO has no plans: you pay per SERP, where one SERP is a results page of up to 10 organic results.
| Provider and plan | Price USD | Searches | USD per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| SerpApi Free | 0 monthly | 250 | 0 |
| SerpApi Starter | 25 monthly | 1,000 | 25.00 |
| SerpApi Developer | 75 monthly | 5,000 | 15.00 |
| SerpApi Production | 150 monthly | 15,000 | 10.00 |
| SerpApi Big Data | 275 monthly | 30,000 | 9.17 |
| SerpApi Searcher | 725 monthly | 100,000 | 7.25 |
| SerpApi Volume | 1,475 monthly | 250,000 | 5.90 |
| SerpApi Cloud 1M | 3,750 monthly | 1,000,000 | 3.75 |
| DataForSEO standard queue | Pay as you go | Per SERP of 10 results | 0.60 |
| DataForSEO priority queue | Pay as you go | Per SERP of 10 results | 1.20 |
| DataForSEO live mode | Pay as you go | Per SERP of 10 results | 2.00 |
SerpApi continues past Cloud 1M with lower rates on larger plans, so 3.75 USD is not its floor. The SerpApi cost per 1,000 searches breakdown lists the rest.
Standard, priority and live mode
DataForSEO's three prices are three delivery speeds, not three feature levels. The standard queue returns results in about 5 minutes on average, with a 45 minute target. Priority returns within about a minute. Live mode answers in a single request, about 6 seconds on average.
That changes who the comparison is fair to. A nightly rank tracker can run entirely in the standard queue at 0.60 USD per 1,000. A product that shows a user their ranking while they wait needs live mode at 2.00. SerpApi is a real-time API, so the like for like comparison for interactive use is SerpApi against DataForSEO live, where DataForSEO is still cheaper at every listed volume, but by a factor of 2 to 12 instead of 40.
What the same volume costs
This table prices a plain Google organic search of one SERP, with no operators and no extra pages. DataForSEO figures are usage, not a checkout total, because of the 50 USD minimum top-up.
| Monthly Google searches | SerpApi plan | DataForSEO live | DataForSEO standard |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5,000 | Developer, 75 USD | 10 USD of usage | 3 USD of usage |
| 30,000 | Big Data, 275 USD | 60 USD | 18 USD |
| 100,000 | Searcher, 725 USD | 200 USD | 60 USD |
| 250,000 | Volume, 1,475 USD | 500 USD | 150 USD |
| 1,000,000 | Cloud 1M, 3,750 USD | 2,000 USD | 600 USD |
At 5,000 searches a month the dollar difference is small and SerpApi's 75 USD plan may be fine. At 100,000 it is 725 USD against 60 to 200 USD. At a million, the gap is more than 1,700 USD a month even against live mode. Volume is where the choice becomes a budget line.
Where DataForSEO's price rises
The base rate applies to a default request. DataForSEO publishes cost multipliers for parameters that need more processing, and rank tracking workloads often use them.
| Parameter | Cost impact on DataForSEO | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Search operators such as site: or inurl: | 5 times the base price | A site: query in live mode costs 0.01 USD |
| Results beyond the first 10 (depth) | One more base price per extra 10 results | Top 100 in live mode costs 0.02 USD |
| Async AI Overview | One more base price, so 2 times | Live plus AI Overview costs 0.004 USD |
| Pixel coordinates (calculate_rectangles) | One more base price, so 2 times | Live plus rectangles costs 0.004 USD |
| People Also Ask click depth | 0.00015 USD per click | Five clicks add 0.00075 USD |
Even with those, a site: query in live mode is 10 USD per 1,000, still below SerpApi Starter. The real exposure is a tracker that checks the top 100 for every keyword with AI Overview on, which makes each check cost eleven base prices. Model your actual parameters before using the 0.60 figure in a business case.
Prepaid balance or monthly plan
DataForSEO requires a minimum top-up of 50 USD, and the balance does not expire. New accounts receive a 1 USD trial credit. That suits irregular work: a project that runs for three weeks and pauses leaves no unused monthly quota behind.
SerpApi gives you a predictable invoice and a monthly quota that resets. That is easier to approve internally, and unused capacity is the cost of that certainty. SerpApi also counts only successful searches, so cached, errored and failed searches do not use quota, and its paid plans include a legal shield for US customers.
Coverage differs too. SerpApi parses Google plus Bing, Baidu, Yandex, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and YouTube, and DataForSEO also sells endpoints for Bing, Yahoo, Baidu, Naver, Seznam and YouTube, each priced separately. If you need an engine, check its row on the DataForSEO pricing index rather than assuming the Google rate applies.
Teams that track rankings usually go on to improve the pages they track, and a link building service is a common next purchase once a tracker shows which keywords sit on page two.
When you also need the pages behind the results
Search data is often the first half of a job. Lead discovery, competitor audits and content gap work then fetch the result pages. WebScrap's Google and Bing SERP API returns organic results, ads, featured snippet, people also ask and local pack data, and uses one request per results page.
| WebScrap plan | Monthly USD | Successful requests | USD per 1,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 49 | 50,000 | 0.98 |
| Growth | 149 | 250,000 | 0.60 |
| Scale | 499 | 1,500,000 | 0.33 |
The same plan fetches protected pages with rotating proxies and rendering, and blocked or failed requests are never billed. At 0.98 USD per 1,000 on Starter it sits between DataForSEO's priority and live rates, and below SerpApi everywhere. DataForSEO's standard queue is cheaper for pure search. See rank tracking through the API for how a tracker is built on it.
Which provider earns your budget
Pick DataForSEO when cost per check decides and a few minutes of delay is fine, which describes most scheduled tracking. Pick SerpApi when you need real-time responses without queue handling, a fixed monthly bill, or its legal shield. Pick WebScrap when search and page fetching belong in one job on one bill.
Before switching, send the same 200 keywords and locations through both, compare the fields your parser reads, and count what you were billed. If you are weighing SerpApi against a Google-only provider instead, the SerpApi vs Serper pricing comparison runs the same math.
Questions buyers ask
Is DataForSEO cheaper than SerpApi?
Yes, at every volume in this comparison. DataForSEO charges 0.60 USD per 1,000 Google organic SERPs in the standard queue, 1.20 in the priority queue and 2.00 in live mode. SerpApi runs from 25 to 3.75 USD per 1,000 across its plans. The gap narrows only when you add DataForSEO's extra-cost parameters.
How much does DataForSEO SERP API cost per 1,000 searches?
A Google organic SERP of up to 10 results costs 0.0006 USD in the standard queue, 0.0012 in the priority queue and 0.002 in live mode. That is 0.60, 1.20 and 2.00 USD per 1,000. Search operators multiply the price by 5, and each extra 10 results adds one more base price.
Does DataForSEO have a monthly fee or a minimum?
DataForSEO has no subscription. You top up a balance with a 50 USD minimum, and funds do not expire. New accounts also get a 1 USD trial credit. That structure suits irregular workloads, while SerpApi suits teams that want a fixed monthly plan with a known invoice.
How fast is DataForSEO compared with SerpApi?
DataForSEO's standard queue averages about 5 minutes with a 45 minute target, the priority queue up to 1 minute, and live mode up to 6 seconds on average. SerpApi is a real-time API. If your product shows results to a user, compare live mode, not the standard queue.
Which is better for rank tracking, SerpApi or DataForSEO?
DataForSEO is better when cost per check matters and a few minutes of delay is acceptable, since nightly tracking fits the standard queue. SerpApi fits when you need real-time answers, many engines or monthly billing. Test both on your keyword and location sample before committing.
Do SerpApi and DataForSEO charge for failed searches?
SerpApi counts only successful searches, so cached, errored and failed searches do not use quota. DataForSEO bills per SERP returned and publishes its rules per endpoint. Check how each provider treats empty or errored tasks in your own trial before assuming the headline rate is your real rate.
