Amazon Product Advertising API Alternative for PA-API 5 and Creators API Limits

Amazon shut PA-API 5 down in May 2026 and its replacement still asks for 10 affiliate sales a month. Send any Amazon product, search or best sellers URL to WebScrap and get the live page back as JSON: title, price, stock, rating and review count. No Associates account, no sales threshold, a flat 0.33 to 0.98 USD per 1,000 pages.

PA-API 5 now answers 403 and the Creators API keeps the sales rule

Amazon deprecated the Product Advertising API 5.0 on April 30, 2026 and retired the endpoint on May 15. Every call now returns HTTP 403 with an AccessDeniedException. The replacement, the Creators API, needs an accepted Associates account and at least 10 qualifying sales in the last 30 days. If you cannot meet that every month, you need a source that reads the product page itself.

A lot of software sat on PA-API without its owners thinking about it much. Deal sites and coupon newsletters that pull the current price of a few thousand products every hour. Price drop alert apps. Review and comparison blogs that refresh a price box in every article. WordPress affiliate plugins. Gift finders and AI shopping assistants. Internal tools at brands that watch their own listings and the three rivals next to them.

The sales rule is the part that hurts. It was always there in some form, but a migration is the moment a lot of accounts get checked again. A site that had a slow summer, a SaaS tool that shows Amazon data but does not earn commission, a brand that never joined Associates at all: none of them qualify, and the Creators API has no paid tier to buy your way in.

Your four options after the PA-API shutdown

Which one fits depends on two questions. Do you earn commission from Amazon every month, and do you only ever need Amazon? Prices below were read on each vendor's own pages on October 5, 2026.

OptionBest forWhere it falls short
Amazon Creators APIAffiliate sites with steady sales that want Amazon's own catalog data at no cost, with the same four operations PA-API had10 qualifying sales in 30 days to keep access, OAuth credentials from Associates Central, 10 items per GetItems call, and rate limits Amazon has not republished for the new API
Selling Partner APIAmazon sellers and their agencies managing their own listings, orders, inventory and adsNeeds a Seller Central account and app registration. It is built around your own selling, not browsing any product in the catalog
Amazon data APIs such as Rainforest and KeepaAmazon only teams that want fully parsed fields, offers and, with Keepa, years of price history without writing any selectorsAmazon only. Rainforest starts at 83 USD for 10,000 credits a month, with extra credits for variant prices and some other options. Keepa sells tokens per minute that expire after an hour
WebScrapLive Amazon pages as JSON at a flat rate, plus Walmart, Target, Best Buy and brand stores on the same key and planYou name the fields once instead of getting a fixed Amazon schema, and we keep no price history. If history is what you need, Keepa is the better buy

PA-API 5, the Creators API and WebScrap side by side

The rate rules for PA-API are the ones Amazon published for version 5. Amazon has not yet published equivalent numbers for the Creators API, so that cell says so instead of guessing.

The PA-API throughput rule is worth remembering if you plan to apply for the Creators API. Under version 5 Amazon granted one extra request per day for every 5 cents of shipped revenue and one extra request per second for every 4,320 USD, so a small site was held near 8,640 lookups a day however many products it listed.

Replace GetItems with one request per product

Where your code called GetItems with an ASIN, send amazon.com/dp/ plus the ASIN to /v1/scrape with a schema. Each field is a CSS or XPath selector, a field that is missing on the page comes back as null instead of vanishing, and type turns "$24.99" into the number 24.99.

On Growth and Scale you can skip the selectors and write a plain English describe of the fields instead. SearchItems becomes a search URL, and GetBrowseNodes becomes the category or best sellers page. The full parameter list is in the API docs.

What your PA-API volume costs on a paid source

One lookup is one product refreshed once. Rainforest prices are its monthly billing rates, using whichever is cheaper at that volume: the smaller plan plus overage credits, or the next plan up. Months of 30 days.

JobLookups per monthRainforest APIWebScrap
Deal site, 1,000 products refreshed daily30,000about 319 USD (Starter 83 plus 20,000 overage credits at 0.0118)49 USD, Starter
Review blog network, 5,000 products daily150,000375 USD, Production149 USD, Growth
Price alert app, 20,000 products daily600,0001,000 USD, BigData499 USD, Scale

Two caveats, in fairness to the alternatives. Rainforest returns a fully parsed Amazon schema with offers, variants and zip code pricing, and some of that takes several requests to rebuild from pages. Keepa charges 1 token per product and its entry plan generates 20 tokens a minute, about 864,000 a month, for roughly 49 EUR. If you only need Amazon products and their price history, Keepa costs less than we do. It does not cover other stores.

Yearly billing halves every WebScrap price, which takes Scale to 0.17 USD per 1,000 pages. The same plan also covers the Amazon scraping API use cases such as reviews and best seller ranks, and every other site on your list.

How to move off PA-API in four steps

01

Find the silent failures

Search plugins, cron jobs and config for webservices.amazon.com and the old access keys. A 403 inside a price widget often shows as "currently unavailable" rather than an error, so pages can be broken for months.

02

Keep your data shape

Wrap the new call in one function that returns the same fields your templates already read, such as Offers price, title and image. Name the schema fields to match and nothing downstream changes.

03

Schedule the refresh

Put the ASIN list into a scheduled job on Growth or Scale. It runs on the interval you set and posts each batch of results to your webhook, so there is no cron server of your own to babysit.

04

Watch the nulls

Amazon changes its page layout now and then. Alert when the share of null prices jumps, update one selector, and you are back. A describe request on Growth adapts to most layout changes on its own.

Who is replacing the Amazon Product Advertising API and why they pay

Deal and coupon sites

Price drops are the product. A stale price is a broken promise to the reader and a lost commission, so refreshes run hourly on the products that move.

Comparison and review publishers

Price boxes across hundreds of articles, plus Walmart and Best Buy next to Amazon so readers see the cheapest place to buy. One key covers every store.

Brands and their agencies

Buy box price, stock and rating for their own ASINs and the competitors beside them. Many never joined Associates and never qualified for PA-API at all. See competitor price scraping software for that use case.

Shopping assistants and AI tools

Agents that answer "what is the best kitchen scale under 30 dollars" need live prices they can cite. The AI web scraper returns them in the shape the model expects.

Three mistakes teams make when they replace PA-API

Migrating to the Creators API on a borderline account. If your site made 12 sales last month, it qualifies today and may not next quarter. Building your whole price feed on it puts the feature one slow month away from another outage. Keep a fallback source wired in, even if you only use it when the API refuses you.

Fetching Amazon from your own server. It works on a few hundred products. Past that, the same address starts getting the robot check page, which comes back with a 200 status and no price in it. Your code stores an empty price and your deal page says the product is gone. Treat a null price as a failed lookup, never as a new value, and keep the last good price until the next run. On WebScrap a fetch that fails is retried up to 3 to 5 times depending on the plan and is never billed, and the website scraper page covers the same pattern for other stores.

Reading the wrong price. A product page can show the buy box price, a strikethrough list price, a subscribe and save price and a used offer. PA-API separated them for you. With a page schema, point price at the buy box block and give the list price its own field, then spot check twenty products by hand before you go live.

Amazon Product Advertising API questions

Is the Amazon Product Advertising API still available?

No. Amazon deprecated PA-API 5.0 on April 30, 2026 and retired the endpoint on May 15, 2026. Calls now return HTTP 403 with an AccessDeniedException that tells you to migrate to the Creators API. Old AWS style access keys do not carry over to the new API.

What replaced the Amazon Product Advertising API?

The Creators API, managed in Associates Central. It keeps the same four operations (SearchItems, GetItems, GetVariations and GetBrowseNodes), switches authentication from AWS request signing to OAuth 2.0 client credentials, and moves to a single global endpoint. It is still an Associates program tool with the same eligibility rules.

How many sales do I need for the Amazon Creators API?

Amazon's Creators API documentation asks for at least 10 qualifying sales within the past 30 days, plus an accepted Associates account in the marketplace you want to query. A new site, a quiet month or a tool that does not sell through affiliate links can fail that test and lose access.

Is there an Amazon product API without an Associates account?

Not from Amazon for catalog data about any product. The Selling Partner API needs a seller account and is built around your own listings. Without either account, the options are third party Amazon data services or a scraping API that reads the public product page, which is what WebScrap does at a flat rate per page.

How much does an Amazon product data API cost?

The Creators API is free but gated by sales. Rainforest API lists 83 USD a month for 10,000 credits on monthly billing, about 8.30 USD per 1,000 products, falling to 1.00 on its 1,000 USD plan. Keepa starts at about 49 EUR a month for 20 tokens a minute. WebScrap is 0.98 USD per 1,000 pages on Starter and 0.33 on Scale.

Can I get live Amazon prices without PA-API?

Yes. Send the product URL, amazon.com/dp/ followed by the ASIN, to the WebScrap scrape endpoint with the fields you want: title, price, list price, availability, rating and review count. The page is fetched at request time, so the price is what a shopper sees on the page at that moment, not a cached value.

How many products can I look up per request?

PA-API and the Creators API both cap GetItems at 10 ASINs per call. On WebScrap one product page is one request, and a search or category results page is also one request that returns every product listed on it. Concurrency runs from 5 parallel requests on Starter to 200 on Scale.

Can I still use Amazon data on my affiliate site?

You can link to Amazon with your Associates tag whatever tool fetched the data. Amazon's operating agreement has its own rules about showing prices, including how fresh they must be, so keep refresh intervals short and read the current Associates policies before you display prices. Our API does not change those rules.

Does WebScrap return Amazon search results and best sellers?

Yes. Send a search URL, a category page or a best sellers page and name the fields you want for each listed product, such as position, title, ASIN, price, rating and the sponsored label. Each results page is one request at the same flat rate as a product page.

Is it legal to scrape Amazon instead of using the API?

Reading public product pages is a common practice and price monitoring is an established industry, but Amazon's terms and your use of the data are your responsibility. Collect public facts such as prices and ratings, avoid logged in pages and personal data, do not republish review text wholesale, and ask a lawyer before building a resale product.

Get live Amazon prices back into your site

Send an Amazon URL and the fields you want, get the live page as JSON. No Associates sales threshold, 0.98 USD per 1,000 requests falling to 0.33 on Scale, and Walmart, Target and brand stores on the same key.

Billed only on successful requests. No card required to create your account.
